   The Beginning of MIFT

"Medical Institute For Tamils" (MIFT) is a registered non-profit cooperation representing Tamil speaking medical and dental professionals in Canada & USA. Our registration number is 1356500.

MIFT was established in November 1998. Our first inaugural meeting took place in Scarborough, Canada on November 28, 1998. This was initiated by the working group of Doctors: J. Rajendra, V. Santhakumar, A. Thangaroopan, K. Gnanendran, C. Kirupananthan, K. Vaithyanathan and V. Figurado. This group worked relentlessly to make this event a success and to form MIFT to help the Tamil community. It was indeed a tremendous task for these busy doctors to make this happen. Their efforts are greatly appreciated. Also without the support of our colleagues across the Atlantic - MIOT UK this would not have been possible! Our sincere thanks to MIOT UK members for helping us in this process.

This event was attended by many Physicians and their families from Ontario and across the country. A draft constitution was approved and the first executive committee was elected.

The highlights of the objectives of MIFT are to preserve/protect the health of the Tamil community, and to improve their conditions of life, to advance the education and training in the Tamil community in the science and art of Medicine, and to be a forum for exchange of medical knowledge, to undertake advisory role and research for the Tamil community, and to liaise with other medical professionals and social organizations working with Tamils.
